Our Story
Pastoralist Concern Kenya (PCK) was founded on a fundamental conviction: that sustainable development must be community-inspired, locally-led, and grounded in the rights of those it serves.
Established on 9 August 2007 as the Marsabit Environmental Conservation Consortium (MECOCO), PCK began as a Community Based Organisation in Marsabit County. As the scope and impact of our work grew, the organisation transitioned to a fully registered Non-Governmental Organisation under the Kenya NGO Coordination Board (Licence No. 218/051/19-127/12901).
Today, PCK operates across six counties in Kenya’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) — Marsabit, Turkana, Wajir, Isiolo, Samburu, and Laikipia — implementing integrated programmes that address the multidimensional challenges facing nomadic and agro-pastoral communities.
We are proud to have contributed to the development of Kenya’s national ASAL Policy and Practice — a recognition of our role not just as programme implementers, but as thought leaders and advocates in the pastoral development discourse.

To strengthen climate change adaptation and mitigation capacities among rural communities in Northern Kenya through community-inspired, locally-driven, and sustainable programmatic interventions.

We do not impose solutions. Every programme begins with community dialogue and is shaped by local knowledge, needs, and priorities.

We uphold the right of every beneficiary to participate in decisions that affect their lives. Our feedback mechanisms ensure no voice goes unheard.

We leverage Kenya’s natural assets — rangelands, water catchments, biodiversity — as instruments for sustainable livelihoods and climate adaptation.

We work with national and county governments, international NGOs, research institutions, and grassroots CBOs to deliver high-quality, impactful programmes.
